Modern spaces in ALEX park paying tribute to history and location
The first modern building for investors to settle in ALEX Innovation Park is the converted helicopter factory hangar.

“Businesses looking to settle in the new space first have to submit an application. The rental prices of the premises in the former hangar depend on the evaluation of this application”, says Aistė Lukaševičiūtė, Head of the Investment and Project Department in Kaunas Municipality.
After the reconstruction of the building, it was dedicated for experimental production and other activities that meet the needs of businesses specialising in ALEX priority sectors (amongst the such – life sciences, automotive industry, information and communication technologies, industrial equipment and devices). Settlers may re-plan production spaces adapting them to their individual needs. The building has two floors: on the first floor there are five cells with high ceilings (industrial spaces) and convenient accesses for freight transport as well as production and storage. On the second floor – around 5 thousand. sq. metres of structured space for administrative premises and laboratories. Convenient access and parking spaces are right next to the building.
In the area surrounding the hangar, all the necessary infrastructure has already been prepared – streets, pedestrian and bicycle paths, underground communications. More than 30 hectares of transformed former military aviation base area is awaiting modern, advanced technology-creating and developing business investments.

From the very start, both the hangar conversion and the concept for the area itself were taking into account the uniqueness of this place and its connections with the surrounding areas.
Beforehand an urban study for the development of the ALEX Innovation Park was carried out on behalf of “Kaunas IN”, in which due attention was paid to its connections with the surrounding developed residential areas and the symbolic sense of the establishment of an industrial object in the territory of the Kaunas Fortress. Even then, the goal was to create an integral and vibrant part of Aleksotas, which would turn from a former military territory into an industrial innovation zone, comply with modern principles of sustainable development, be a compact, green and communication-promoting part of the city, where a lot of attention is paid to public spaces – internal paths, recreational areas that are attractive both to Kaunas and to employees who create high added value working in the innovation industrial park.
